In order to keep your SEO campaign effective, you must keep up with industry trends as they are happening. We have seen in the past year that Google is moving toward getting rid of spam and improving content in order to give users a more pleasant online experience. But what else should we expect to see in the near future? Here are some possible SEO industry trends that we may see in the remainder of 2013 and ahead.

  1. In the near future, content may become more detailed and thoughtful. A 500 word blog post does not have the impact that it once did. The move toward longer, 1,000 – 2,000 word in-depth articles could be happening soon. Shorter articles, when well done, are still worthwhile; however, longer and more detailed articles are expected to gain an audience. So how should one approach this transition? One way to do so is to offer more comprehensive information. For example, instead of an article that gives 25 tips, try offering 50 tips. You could also supplement your content with graphics or videos.
  2. Use various types of content. Branch out from blog posts, and try using new types of content like interactive quizzes, infographics, and videos. The key is to set yourself apart from all of the other noise on the internet. The way that you distribute content is key here. When you use a video rather than a blog post, you can post it on YouTube or Pinterest, where it reaches a whole new audience.
  3. Establish author authority for your entire body of work. Google does this using Google Authorship. The rankings of your content are affected by the number of social signals generated by your content, the frequency of your postings, and the quality of the sites with which you are connected.
  4. Focus on great design. Visitors to your site will put more trust in your brand if your website looks professional. A professional looking website is more likely to make site visitors feel like your business is legitimate. It was also increase conversions; visitors are more likely to purchase a product or sign up for your newsletter when your page looks clean, well-designed, and professional. Design can also be used to establish authority. By placing your photo on your page and placing high-quality content, visitors will come to associate your image and name with a high-quality product.
  5. Mobile-ready design is essential. So many of the visitors to your site view your site on a mobile device; quite soon, more users will see your website on a mobile device than on a desktop computer. It is absolutely essential that your site responds compatibly, quickly and easily for mobile users, or they won’t stick around to see what your page has to offer. Mobile compatibility is now the standard, not the exception. If your page isn’t there yet, that should be number one on your priority list. Speed is important when it comes to mobile-ready design, too. Users expect your page to load quickly. One solution for this is to use a content delivery network.
  6. Social media’s influence will continue to be an important factor for SEO. Businesses need to have a branded page for social media outlets, as this is key to reaching a large audience. Focus on developing a quality social media presence.

These are some of the SEO trends that have begun in 2013 and can be expected to grow and develop in the near future. Applying these strategies can help your business to stay ahead of the SEO curve.
