How to Achieve Search Results That Are Mobile Responsive

A huge number of people are conducting their web searches via mobile devices, and that number is ever-growing. How often do you use your phone or tablet versus an actual laptop or desktop computer? If you are like many of us in this tech-reliant age, you probably count on your phone to perform a wide variety of tasks. Many people purchase gifts or buy some basic needs from the phone while doing other things. A parent used their iPad to add money to their children’s school lunch accounts and check their grades. And one writer types essays on her phone and she can type a paper faster using her two thumbs than she can type on an actual computer keyboard.

Clearly, we have to adjust our methods to meet the growing demands of mobile users. All of those mobile users expect to get relevant results to their searches, and they expect to get the information that they seek quickly. In response to this, Google has been updating its algorithms to make sure that they can give users what they want. Google has reconfigured its site so that it is responsive to users of mobile devices. They’ve also improved functionality so that users can easily access mobile-friendly websites from Google’s search results. App indexing has made it easier for users to employ apps to find the information they need. The web has come a long way in adapting to mobile devices. There are two new additions to Google’s strategy that make mobile access even more convenient.

  1. The first change employed by Google has already begun. Now, users who are signed in and have the app installed will be given search results that are ranked using information from indexed apps. Therefore, surface content from indexed apps will be more widely used in search results. Webmasters can use Google’s guide to implement app indexing.
  2. Mobile-friendliness will be used more widely as a ranking signal in search results beginning April 21, 2015. Mobile-friendliness has already been used as a ranking signal to an extent, but the scope of that ranking factor will broaden. It will have a larger impact on search results, and it will affect sites in all languages across the globe. Google webmasters believe that this expansion will make it easier for mobile users to obtain content that is accessible, relevant, and high-quality. This means that it is important for webmasters to get their pages ready for this change. Webmasters can test a few pages for mobile-friendliness by using the Mobile-Friendly Test, or test an entire site using the Mobile Usability Report.

These changes will help to improve your site for mobile users and earn you higher search rankings. In this age of mobile connectivity, any progress that you can make toward creating a more mobile-friendly website will certainly pay dividends.
