How to Make Bing’s Linked Pages Work for You

Today it seems like almost everyone is searching for someone online. It’s even recommended that you search for yourself online from time to time just to see what others are saying about you. Last year Bing started bringing the expanded search results of our Facebook friends over to Bing so that you can find people you know more easily, but now the search engine is making it possible for you to take control over how you or your business actually show up on Bing.

Bing’s new Linked Pages makes it possible for you to link sites that are connected to you in some way with search results about you in Bing. It means that if people are looking for you online, they can see sites that you’re interested in. You can even link some of your favorite pages over to your friends on Bing. Here’s how it works.

There are a lot of people throughout the world who have the same name, so in Bing’s search engine rankings, people show up with a list of pages that are linked to them. For example, a search for John Smith will turn up his Facebook page, Linkedin Page, blog, Quora, and anything else he wants to link to his name. This helps people identify which John Smith they are looking for because, as you can image, there are a lot of people named John Smith.

Here’s how you actually start linking pages to your name:

  1. Go to: bing.com/linkedpages. Use your Facebook login at that site, which will enable Bing to post to your wall.
  2. Once you’re logged in through Facebook, you can add as many pages as you want, including the home page of your business or the company you work for, sites for the organizations you work or volunteer with, or whatever else you want to come up with your name.
  3. If you want to link your friend with a page, then just do a Bing search for them and do the links for them.
  4. At the end of the day, you always have full control over which sites are linked to you. If someone links a site that you don’t want to be connected with, you can always remove that link. Just go back to bing.com/linked pages to take off any links you want to remove, and once you do that, you’re the only one who can add that link back on. You don’t have to worry about someone relinking you to a page you’ve unlinked without your permission.
  5. If you ever want Bing to stop linking pages, all you have to do is go back to Facebook and disable the application so that it won’t do it any longer.

The reason Bing uses Facebook as its starting point is because the social networking site has made it so easy to reconnect with former school mates or old friends. Bing’s Linked Pages makes it possible for you to decide what people see when they look for you.

Bing’s Linked pages are a great way to grow your business by linking it with your name. It’s very similar to receiving an endorsement from someone. When others see that their friends have your page linked to their name, you are basically getting a referral customer, and there’s no better way to build a strong customer base than through referrals from customers who are already pleased with your services!
